Air Rarotonga is the national airline of the Cook Islands, headquartered in
Rarotonga and based at
Rarotonga
International Airport (RAR). Founded in 1978, the airline operates scheduled
passenger and cargo services within the Cook Islands, while also providing
regional international flights across the South Pacific. Its network plays a key
role in connecting Rarotonga with outer island communities and neighbouring
Pacific destinations.
The airline operates domestic services throughout the Cook Islands and
international services between Rarotonga and Papeete, Tahiti. In addition to
scheduled flights, Air Rarotonga offers charter services for passenger,
corporate, government, medical evacuation, and tourism operations across the
Pacific region.
Passenger operations are supported by a fleet that
includes Saab 340B regional turboprop aircraft and Embraer EMB 110 Bandeirante
aircraft. The airline also operates a Cessna Citation II business jet for
charter and specialised aviation services. Its fleet is configured to support
both passenger and cargo transportation across short- and medium-haul island
routes.
In addition to airline operations, Air Rarotonga provides ground
handling, cargo handling, aircraft maintenance, and fixed-base operator (FBO)
services at Rarotonga International Airport. The company holds Cook Islands Air
Operator and Maintenance Organisation certifications and serves as an essential
component of the country's aviation infrastructure.
