Addis Ababa Bole International Airport (ADD) is the main international gateway to Ethiopia’s capital, located approximately 6 km southeast of Addis Ababa city center. As the busiest airport in Ethiopia and one of Africa’s major aviation hubs, it serves as the primary base for Ethiopian Airlines, connecting Africa with Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and the Americas.

Facilities

The airport features two passenger terminals: Terminal 1 (primarily domestic and some regional flights) and Terminal 2 (mainly international departures and arrivals). The modern terminal complex includes check-in counters, self-service kiosks, immigration and customs services, baggage claim areas, premium lounges, duty-free shops, retail outlets, and a variety of dining options offering Ethiopian and international cuisine.

Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the terminals. Additional services include ATMs, currency exchange counters, banking facilities, medical services, prayer rooms, and VIP lounges. The airport’s expanded infrastructure enables it to handle over 20 million passengers annually, supporting its role as a key transit hub in Africa.

Airlines

ADD is dominated by Ethiopian Airlines, Africa’s largest carrier, offering extensive connections across the continent and long-haul routes to major cities such as London, Paris, Dubai, Beijing, Washington, D.C., and Toronto. Other airlines operating at ADD include Turkish Airlines, Emirates, Qatar Airways, Lufthansa, EgyptAir, and Kenya Airways, providing both regional and intercontinental services.

Transportation

Travelers can reach Addis Ababa city center via taxis readily available outside the terminals. Ride-hailing services and hotel shuttle arrangements are also common. Public buses connect the airport with parts of the city, though many visitors prefer taxis for convenience.

Addis Ababa Bole International Airport continues to expand and modernize, reinforcing its position as a leading aviation hub in Africa and a strategic connection point between continents.
