Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport

Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport (IATA: MRU) is the primary international airport of Mauritius, located in Plaine Magnien, approximately 48 km southeast of Port Louis, the capital city. It serves as the main hub for the national carrier Air Mauritius and handles flights connecting the island to destinations across Europe, Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Australia. The airport is named after Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam, the first Prime Minister of Mauritius and a key figure in the country’s history.

Facilities

MRU features a modern single passenger terminal designed to handle around 4 million passengers annually, with a wide range of facilities to support both leisure and business travellers. Inside the terminal you’ll find multiple check‑in counters and self‑service kiosks, duty‑free shops, retail outlets, restaurants and cafes, as well as ATMs, currency exchange services and baby care rooms. Free Wi‑Fi is available for several hours throughout the terminal, and there are VIP lounges, including the Air Mauritius Lounge and an executive lounge with comfortable seating, refreshments and work facilities.

A variety of international airlines operate at MRU alongside Air Mauritius, including British Airways, Emirates, Air France, Turkish Airlines, South African Airways, Kenya Airways, and others, offering both year‑round and seasonal flights.

Transportation

For ground transport, passengers can choose from public buses (routes 09, 10 and 198 linking MRU with Port Louis and other towns), taxis and ride‑hailing services, hotel shuttles, or car rentals available at the arrivals hall.
