Faa’a International Airport (PPT), also known as Tahiti International Airport, is the main international gateway to French Polynesia. Located in the commune of Faa’a on the island of Tahiti, the airport is approximately 5 km southwest of downtown Papeete, the capital of French Polynesia. It serves as the territory’s primary hub for both domestic and international air travel, connecting Tahiti with the islands of French Polynesia and major destinations across North America, Europe, Oceania, and the Pacific region.

Facilities

Faa’a International Airport operates from a single passenger terminal complex that accommodates both international and domestic flights. The terminal features airline check-in counters, self-service facilities, immigration and customs services, baggage claim areas, passenger lounges, retail stores, duty-free shopping, and tourist information services.

Dining options include cafés, snack bars, and restaurants serving local Polynesian and international cuisine. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the terminal, along with ATMs, currency exchange services, car rental counters, baggage services, and accessible facilities for passengers with reduced mobility.

Airlines

Airlines operating at PPT include Air Tahiti Nui, Air Tahiti, Air Moana, Air France, Air New Zealand, United Airlines, Delta Air Lines, French Bee, Aircalin, Air Rarotonga, and Hawaiian Airlines. The airport serves domestic destinations throughout French Polynesia, including Bora Bora, Moorea, Raiatea, Rangiroa, and Nuku Hiva. International routes connect Tahiti with Paris, Los Angeles, Seattle, San Francisco, Auckland, Tokyo, Honolulu, Nouméa, Rarotonga, and other destinations across the Pacific region.

Transportation

Travelers can access Papeete and surrounding areas via taxis, airport shuttle services, public buses, rental cars, and private transfers. The journey between the airport and central Papeete takes 10 to 15 minutes by road, depending on traffic conditions. Car rental companies operate directly from the airport, and hotel transfer services are available for many resorts and accommodation providers across Tahiti and nearby islands.

Faa’a International Airport is the only international airport in French Polynesia and serves as the territory’s principal aviation hub. It plays a vital role in supporting tourism, business travel, and inter-island connectivity throughout the South Pacific.
